The Heart Sutra brings us directly into the very quality that makes a life of compassion possible, namely, the perfection of wisdom. Genpo Merzel and Ken McLeod, two great contemporary Buddhist teachers, will explore the challenges of bringing this ancient text into modern culture.

Dennis Genpo Merzel Roshi is abbot of Kanzeon Zen Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, which he founded in 1993. He is a revolutionary in the tradition of the old Zen Masters who so embodied Buddhist teaching that they were able to revitalize and transform it for their own day and age. He is author of five books and has developed a method of self investigation called Big Mind.
Ken McLeod, a senior Western teacher of Buddhism, is also one of the most innovative. Formerly a translator for Kalu Rinpoche and other Tibetan Buddhist lamas, Ken consistently goes beyond standard terminology to express the essence of Buddha's teachings in clear, precise, contemporary English. An Arrow to the Heart is KenŐs recently published commentary on the Heart Sutra.
